Trucking Insurance Information
We are one of the few agencies in the Central MA area providing commercial truck insurance. Whether you have a fleet of commercial trucks you need to protect or are looking to insure the delivery van you use for your brick-and-mortar store, we have the expertise to find you the right coverage at an affordable rate.
What coverage is available?
The type of coverage you need will depend on what you're hauling, if you're the owner and operator, and other factors. Commonly needed policies are described below. Please contact our office so we may get to know you and your business in order to customize your protection.
Auto Liability- Auto liability coverage protects you if a client is injured or their property is damaged by you or your employee. MCS90 or MCS90B – endorsements can be added free of charge when required. Some policies will include protection against identity theft and trailer interchange coverage (for trailers that you do not own but that are in your possession under a written agreement).
Own and operate your truck? Family emergency travel covers family members' costs to travel to the insured in case of hospitalization. It is also possible to add liability protection for times you are not operating as a motor carrier.
Physical Damage-If your vehicle is damaged, whether the damage was caused by a fire or a collision, physical damage coverage offers protection. Depending on your policy, towing expenses may automatically be included. Rental reimbursement, windshield repair, and electronic equipment coverage are potentially included.
Motor Truck General Liability- This type of coverage includes bodily injury, personal injury, property damage liability and more and is suited for those hauling goods that they do not own. If one of your drivers makes a delivery error and your client sues for damages, motor truck general liability would cover these costs.
Motor Truck Cargo- If your cargo is lost, damaged, or stolen, a motor truck cargo policy will cover your liability for the loss. This type of policy covers both the insured party and the owner of the cargo.
Endorsements can be added to suit your particular needs. Cargo spilled all over the road? Clean up costs can be covered. Reloading the cargo cost you extra? It may be possible to reimburse those costs as well.
Not all types of cargo are treated equally though, and some types may be excluded, such as jewelry, alcohol, or art. Be sure to inquire about what exclusions apply.
Worker's Compensation- If you have employees, worker's compensation covers workers injured on the job, whether they're hurt on the workplace premises or elsewhere, or in auto accidents while on business. It also covers work-related illnesses and provides payments to injured workers, without regard to who was at fault in the accident, for time lost from work and for medical and rehabilitation services.
In almost every state, businesses are required to buy workers compensation insurance. Learn more about worker's compensation on our business insurance page.
What determines how much I pay for insurance?
How much your insurance costs depends on multiple factors. The type of vehicle you operate, your driving history, where you drive, what you haul, and potentially federal and state requirements.
What discounts may be available?
You should always ask about discounts! Some of the discounts available through companies we work with include a discount for businesses that have been running for longer than three years, a discount available for paying your premium in full, a discount for sharing your ELD driving data with your insurance company, and package discounts for having multiple policies.
